Sex Crimes

Sexual Assault & Other Sex Crimes

Sexual assault is just one of the many crimes enumerated in Wisconsin statutes. Others include:

  • Felony Sexual Assault (Rape)
  • Possession Of Child Pornography
  • Serious Child Sex Offender
  • Sexual Exploitation By A Therapist
  • Sexual Exploitation Of A Child
  • Serious Sex Crime
  • Use Of A Computer To Commit A Sex Crime

Public Record For Sex Offenders
Once charged, a sexual assault or any crime involving sexual contact is published and make part of a person's public record, and remains published regardless of whether the alleged charge is dropped or prosecuted by the district attorney. Additionally, whether a person enters a plea of no contest (nolo contendere), or guilty, or accepts an alterative sexual conduct crime, the law requires that the charged person register with the sex offender registration.

Once registered, the court can impose additional requirements upon the convicted sex offender, such as probation-type requirements, which may require additional fines, therapy, reporting, and other more severe restrictions. such as reporting regularly. In addition to the reporting requirements, sex offenses often include fines, and can include jail time or probation.

Sex Offense Charges & Penalties
In Wisconsin, sex offenses can be charged as either a misdemeanor or a felony, depending on many factors. In most cases, sex crimes are charged as a felony offense.

Wisconsin law also provides that people convicted of sex crimes may be placed on supervision. That watchful eye can be ordered for a set period of time, or a lifetime.

Lifetime Supervision
Lifetime supervision requires that a person report to the Sex Offenders Registry for the rest of their life. Additionally, it can require other supervisory requirements.

If a person is placed on lifetime supervision by a Wisconsin court, and at least fifteen years has passed without any other incidences, it may be possible to petition the court for termination of the supervision requirement. To begin that process, please contact the attorneys at Sisson & Kachinsky*.

Under Investigation
If you are under investigation for a sex crime, you may or may not be aware that a allegation has been made against you. Even if you merely suspect that you are under investigation, you should refrain from answering any questions, and contact an attorney immediately.
